Project summary: A European beauty brand commissioned a three-piece cosmetic bag set to accompany a skincare launch. The requirement was not a single bag but a coordinated family — a clear travel pouch, a structured zipped case and a small brush pouch — that would look consistent on shelf and could be reordered each season without colour drift.

The brief

The client neededA three-piece set in matching branding, ready for a launch date tied to a product release
VolumeInitial trial run followed by scheduled repeat orders
ConstraintsColour had to stay consistent across seasons; clear pouch had to show contents; the set had to pack flat for retail
MarketsEuropean retail, with labelling requirements to confirm

How the set was developed

The set was specified as three different constructions rather than three sizes of one bag, because each piece has a different job.

  • Clear travel pouch: transparent material so contents remain visible, with a zip closure and a reinforced zip end. Market labelling requirements for this material were confirmed before sampling.
  • Structured zipped case: a coated outer fabric with foam interlining to hold shape, giving the set its body and the surface for brand printing.
  • Brush pouch: a smaller soft pouch, lightly interlined, with an internal elastic arrangement to hold brushes.

All three used the same hardware references so the zipper pulls and sliders would match across the set, and the same colour reference so that a reordered piece would sit correctly next to the others.

The colour consistency problem

The main technical risk was colour. A set that looks unified at launch can drift apart when individual pieces are reordered months later, because each order is produced from a fresh batch of material.

The solution was procedural rather than technical: a physical colour standard was approved and retained, the material supplier and reference code were recorded against it, and each subsequent order was matched against the retained swatch rather than against a digital value. The same reference applies to the printed branding, so the print and the material move together.

Outcome

  • Three-piece set delivered as a coordinated family rather than three unrelated bags.
  • Colour control established as a retained physical standard, making seasonal reorders repeatable.
  • Hardware standardised across the set so replacement pieces match.
  • Set packs flat for retail while the structured case keeps its shape in use.
